EquuSense 1.0

Equine Motion and Physiology System for Equine Professionals

The EquuSense system is a powerful but easy-to-use wireless sensor system that empowers equine professionals with unique insights into how horses move and their physiological performance. It delivers real-world data while walking, trotting, cantering, or galloping. Each small, lightweight and robust sensor node provides objective and reproducible information on its position, velocity, acceleration, orientation and rotation, relative to the horse or to a global frame of reference, to an accuracy of a few millimeters or a few degrees, up to 1,000 times per second. Optional sensors will be available for monitoring physiological parameters and environmental conditions, including cardio-vascular, respiratory, gastro-intestinal and temperature and oxygen level.

The EquuSense system is designed for equine professionals, such as equine veterinarians and trainers, including everything needed for quick and easy use in the field:

  • Four (4) position sensor nodes and attachments
  • 17"Apple Macbook Pro
  • Software and on-line service support
  • Packaged in robust case

The EquuSense system has applications throughout the cycle of equine development, care and conditioning:

  • Evaluation, such as pre-purchase examinations, providing an accurate objective picture of how a horse moves
  • Diagnosis and treatment of lameness, in particular subtle or complex lameness that is difficult or impossible to assess well with the unaided human eye
  • Conditioning and training, qualifying and quantifying potential performance

Telemetry and informatics have proven their ability to maximize performance. The system incorporate technologies spun-out from MIT and other top technology universities worldwide, combining nanotechnology sensors, proprietary RF protocols, and state-of-the-art signal processing with an easy-to-use graphical interface.
